Alexo Wandael is an Italian Award winner director and photographer based in Montreal, Canada.
Born and raised in Bolzano, Italy he studied Architecture before moving to Berlin and New York where he practiced for 11 years.
Eventually he followed his passion for photography and became a fashion and fine art photographer in New York receiving Awards and accolades from both the fashion and art world.
His fine art work has been included in solo and group shows around the globe and is also part of the permanent collection of the FIT Museum in NY.
In 2012 he was in Afghanistan with the Italian Army to document the tragic jailing of Afghan women and children, and the training of Afghan women to become soldiers.
Drawn to narrative, he published two photography books documenting his motorcycle road trips across America between 2013-2016.
In 2014 he started his ongoing project italiany.us portraying and interviewing first generation Italians living, loving and working in the US. The project was shown in NY, Miami (Art Basel) and Los Angeles.
Ultimately he moved to LA where he created LANYMA films (movies with a soul) producing in 2019 his first Awards winner short film “To my Pink Lady”.
The first long feature “Tomato Soup in Skid Row”, LA 2022, explores the social and racial issue of homelessness and was inspired by his photo essay of Skid Row in 2016.
Wandael's aesthetics and visual story telling extended to the direction of music videos and commercials. His clientele include Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Bulgari, Nike, Hermes, Amazon, celebrities like Katy Perry, KT Tunstall, Oleg Cassini, Patch Adams and many other personalities within the Fashion and Arts communities.
